  • tablespoon double-acting baking powder 
  • teaspoons pepper black freshly ground
  • tablespoons butter chilled cut into small pieces
  • large eggs 
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • 0.7 cup buttermilk low-fat
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese fresh shredded
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • teaspoons sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 40
  2. Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife.
  3. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients in a large bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in cheese.
  4. Combine buttermilk and egg in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk.
  5. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moist.
  6. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 5 times with floured hands. Pat dough into an 8-inch circle on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
  7. Cut dough into 8 wedges, cutting into, but not through, dough. Coat lightly with cooking spray.
  8. Bake at 400 for 24 minutes or until lightly browned.
