Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 37
  2. Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife.
  3. Combine flour and next 7 ingredients (flour through cloves) in a bowl.
  4. Combine buttermilk, egg substitute, 1/4 cup butter, and molasses in a bowl.
  5. Add to flour mixture, stirring until smooth.
  6. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a 9-inch cast-iron skillet. Stir in 1/3 cup brown sugar, and cook over medium heat 1 minute.
  7. Remove from heat; sprinkle with walnuts.
  8. Place pear slices in the bottom of skillet.
  9. Pour batter over pears.
  10. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes on a wire rack; invert cake onto a serving plate.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature.
