Indulge in the rich, caramelized flavors of our Texas Praline Cake, a decadent dessert that perfectly captures the essence of Southern hospitality. This impressive treat boasts a dense, moist crumb infused with the deep, aromatic notes of instant coffee and unsweetened cocoa, creating a chocolate experience that feels both classic and uniquely bold. The true star of this recipe, however, is the luscious homemade whipped cream frosting. Unlike heavy, store-bought alternatives, this topping is airy and light, made by whipping chilled heavy cream with brown sugar, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until it holds stiff peaks. It provides the perfect counterbalance to the cake's rich texture, ensuring every bite is a harmonious blend of sweetness and creaminess.

What sets this cake apart is the generous incorporation of pecans, both coarsely chopped into the batter and halved on top as an elegant garnish. These nuts add a delightful crunch and a nutty depth that complements the praline-like flavor profile of the brown sugar. Whether you are hosting a holiday gathering or simply craving a sophisticated afternoon dessert, this recipe delivers an unforgettable taste sensation. The preparation is straightforward yet rewarding, requiring just a bowl, a frying pan, and an oven to transform simple pantry staples into a show-stopping centerpiece. With a serving size perfect for ten people and a calorie count that reflects its indulgent nature, it is a treat to be savored slowly. Don't forget to let the cake cool completely in the pan before frosting to ensure the whipped topping stays stable and pristine. Serve warm slices with the pecan halves arranged artistically on top for a truly memorable culinary experience.

  • cups flour all-purpose
  • cup heavy cream chilled
  • tablespoon coffee granules instant
  • 10  pecan halves
  • cup pecans coarsely chopped
  • 0.1 teaspoon salt
  • tablespoon cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.5 cup sugar white

Equipment

  • bowl
  • frying pan
  • oven
  • knife
  • wire rack
  • toothpicks

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease just the bottom of a 10 inch tube pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, 1 cup brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla. Dissolve the coffee crystals in water, and stir into the creamed mixture until blended. Stir together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; stir into the batter until just incorporated. Fold in pecans.
  3. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for about 55 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on a wire rack.
  5. In a chilled bowl, stir together the heavy cream, salt, vanilla and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar so that the sugar is dissolved. Whip using chilled beaters until stiff. Run a knife around the outer edge of the cake in the pan, and tap it out onto a serving plate. Make sure cake is completely cool before frosting. Decorate with pecan halves if you like.
