There is nothing quite like the warm, inviting aroma of a freshly baked Texas Praline Cake that instantly transports you to the heart of the South. This decadent dessert is a true celebration of texture and flavor, offering a rich, moist crumb that perfectly balances the deep, earthy notes of coffee and cocoa with the buttery sweetness of pecans. What makes this recipe truly special is the stunning contrast between the dense, flavorful cake and the light, airy whipped cream frosting, creating an experience that feels both indulgent and perfectly balanced.

As a cooking enthusiast, I am particularly drawn to the versatility of this cake, which can be customized to suit any palate. The inclusion of instant coffee granules dissolved in water adds a subtle complexity that enhances the chocolate flavor without making the cake taste like coffee, while the optional pecan halves scattered on top provide an elegant, rustic touch. Whether you are hosting a holiday gathering or simply craving a homemade treat that feels like a hug in a plate, this dessert delivers on every level. The preparation process itself is a joy, involving the simple pleasure of creaming butter and sugars until they are light and fluffy, followed by the satisfying fold of chopped pecans into the batter.

Baking this cake requires patience, especially when it comes to the frosting, which must be whipped in a chilled bowl to achieve that perfect, stiff consistency that holds its shape beautifully against the warm cake. Once you slice into the first piece, the release of aromatic spices and the sight of golden pecans embedded in the crumb will make all the effort worthwhile. It is a recipe that brings people together, perfect for sharing with family and friends who appreciate the art of fine baking. Don't miss out on the opportunity to create this masterpiece in your own kitchen.

  • cups flour all-purpose
  • cup heavy cream chilled
  • tablespoon coffee granules instant
  • 10  pecan halves
  • cup pecans coarsely chopped
  • 0.1 teaspoon salt
  • tablespoon cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.5 cup sugar white

Equipment

  • bowl
  • frying pan
  • oven
  • knife
  • wire rack
  • toothpicks

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease just the bottom of a 10 inch tube pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, 1 cup brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla. Dissolve the coffee crystals in water, and stir into the creamed mixture until blended. Stir together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; stir into the batter until just incorporated. Fold in pecans.
  3. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for about 55 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on a wire rack.
  5. In a chilled bowl, stir together the heavy cream, salt, vanilla and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar so that the sugar is dissolved. Whip using chilled beaters until stiff. Run a knife around the outer edge of the cake in the pan, and tap it out onto a serving plate. Make sure cake is completely cool before frosting. Decorate with pecan halves if you like.
