Directions

  1. Combine flour and baking soda; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until crumbly.
  2. Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times.
  4. Pat or roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch round cutter, and place on lightly greased baking sheets.
  5. Bake at 400 for 10 to 12 minutes.
