Imagine elevating your next gathering with a snack that is as visually stunning as it is deliciously surprising. This Peanut Butter Crackers With Glazed Grapes recipe transforms the classic pairing of cheese and fruit into an elegant appetizer that will leave your guests asking for seconds. The star of the show is a homemade cracker dough that cleverly incorporates creamy peanut butter, roasted peanuts, and a hint of thyme, creating a nutty, slightly sweet base that offers a delightful crunch. Unlike store-bought varieties, these crackers are crafted from scratch using a blend of all-purpose and whole-wheat flour, ensuring a wholesome texture that perfectly complements the rich, velvety spread of room-temperature brie or camembert.

The true magic happens when you drape the fresh grapes in a luscious glaze made from dry red wine and sugar. As the grapes simmer in this aromatic syrup, they absorb the deep, complex flavors of the wine while retaining their juicy freshness. When you top each cracker with a generous slice of soft cheese and crown it with a single glazed grape, the result is a perfect harmony of textures and tastes. The savory, earthy notes of the cheese and crackers contrast beautifully with the sweet, tangy burst of the wine-soaked fruit. Best of all, this recipe is surprisingly accessible, requiring only basic kitchen tools and a little patience to chill the dough until it firms up. Whether you are hosting a sophisticated cocktail party or simply want to impress family with a unique twist on a familiar snack, this appetizer delivers an experience that is both comforting and refined.

Ingredients

  • 0.3 pound round of président brie soft at room temperature
  • 0.5 cup cooking wine dry red
  • 0.5 cup flour for dusting all-purpose plus more
  • tablespoons granulated sugar
  • pinch kosher salt
  • tablespoon brown sugar light packed
  • tablespoons milk
  • 0.3 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 15 large grapes red seedless halved
  • tablespoons roasted peanuts salted finely chopped
  • tablespoons rolled oats
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt fine
  • small sprig thyme leaves
  • tablespoons butter unsalted cold cut into small pieces
  • 0.3 cup flour whole-wheat

Equipment

  • food processor
  • baking sheet
  • sauce pan
  • baking paper
  • oven
  • plastic wrap

Directions

  1. Pulse both flours, the oats, brown sugar and fine salt in a food processor until combined.
  2. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture looks like wet sand.
  3. Add the peanuts, peanut butter and milk and pulse until the mixture clumps together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, form into a ball and knead 4 or 5 times.
  4. Roll into a 12-inch-long log, about 1 inch in diameter. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Slice the dough into 1/4 -inch-thick rounds and arrange 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake until golden, 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Transfer the baking sheets to racks and let the crackers cool.
  7. Meanwhile, make the glazed grapes: Cook the granulated sugar, wine and thyme in a small saucepan over medium heat until syrupy, 10 to 12 minutes. Discard the thyme and add the grapes and kosher salt; stir to coat and cook 1 more minute.
  8. Remove from the heat and let cool.
  9. Spread each cracker with cheese and top with a glazed grape. Season with pepper, if desired. Photograph by Kana Okada
